My daughter suffers from asthma, that is one of the reasons I decided to find a way to work from home, so I can be able to adjust my schedule when she gets sick.

One day I went to her school to excuse her because she was sick again and the grandmother of one of her classmates told me: “Joe is also asthmatic and since I started giving him Aloe vera in his orange juice each morning, he’s been doing better”. So I decided to learn more about it.

Here’s why Aloe could help relieve asthma.

  • Aloe contains sterols – Sterols are important anti-inflammatory agents. The ones found in Aloe Vera are: Cholesterol, Sitosterol, Campesterol and Lupeol. These sterols contain antiseptic and analgesic properties.
  • Aloe contains polysaccharides – Polysaccharides are the most important types of sugars. They aid in proper digestion, maintain cholesterol levels, improve liver functions and promote the strengthening of bones. Acemannan refers to a D-isomer mucopolysaccharide that is extracted from aloe leaves. This compound has been known to have immunostimulant, antiviral, antineoplastic and gastrointestinal properties.

But beware, NOT all Aloe is created equal!

The most nutritionally potent is the Aloe Barbadensis Miller, so make sure that the Aloe vera gel that you buy contains this type of aloe. It’s also important that you buy aloe that has been submitted to a natural stabilization process that allows it to reach the consumers in its natural state.

You may think that it’s best to go to the source and use the aloe gel straight from the leaf if you have a potted aloe plant, but that is also something you need to be careful about. Aloe leaves contain a compound called Aloin. Aloin is a bitter, yellow-brown colored compound that can irritate the digestive system.

So in order to get the most benefit of aloe vera and help improve your asthma it’s best to choose an aloe vera gel that comes from aloe vera barbadensis miller, that has been stabilized and that had its aloin removed.
