Monday morning I was at the IRS office… (I know, I know!) turns out that as a rookie I failed to pay Social Security for the first year I was self-employed (2004) … anyway as I was there waiting for my turn I start talking to the lady in front of me and she had a similar problem I asked her what she did for a living and she said: “I’m in sales, I’m an executive sales director for Company X… have you heard about them?”
Company X is a well respected beauty direct sales company. I was impressed… not for the fact that she was so successful, but for the way she said it… it didn’t sound “home-based” it sounded professional… I knew it was home based AND network marketing because I know the company, but she got my respect and attention by the way she handles herself and her business.
So we kept the conversation going and we talked about many things business related, then I asked her: If you had to recommend just one thing to your downline to help them succeed, what would it be? (Sounds like a Miss Universe pageant question, huh?) Her response was simple: The book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”
The funny thing is that the week before I was listening to a Dani Johnson’s CD’s and in the first CD of the series, that is the book she recommends everyone to read, so when this Company X gal also mentioned the book, I got the hint.
I’ve heard of that book many times before, and for some reason I never purchased it, but I believe that when something follows you and everything you do takes you in front of that thing again and again, you better pay attention and do someting about it.
So today, I went to Borders and got the book, when I am at the cash register, the cashier looks at the book and tells me: “Oh, this is an incredible book, you’re going to love it” (Another hint?) Then she goes on telling me how they are running a book drive for women that are in a rehab center and they live there with their kids and she has a few piles of pocket books for me to choose from and she tells me: “Let me bring you the other pile I have back there…”
The first book on the top of the pile is the Spanish version of “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, can you believe that? I felt my goosebumps rising, and the chilling sensation on my back and I told her: “OMG, this can’t be a coincidence, I think this was meant to happen”.
So I paid for my book and the Spanish version for one lucky lady, now I’m praying for this lucky lady’s understanding and that this book really makes her “win friends and influence other people too” and she’s able to change her life forever.
